Basic route: The trip starts at the formerly famous yeoman village of Liptovský Ján (634 m). Comfortable asphalt road marked in blue (2626) will carry you up to the valley. Pass the crossroads below the swimming pool (655 m) with a left turning of the red-marked trail. You, however, will continue up the Jánska dolina valley, pass by the Ďumbier hotel, rehabilitation centre of Bystrá, and various recreation buildings scattered in the lower part of the picturesque Jánska dolina valley. Abandon the main valley at the crossroads next to the end of the Stanišovská dolina valley (718 m), turning left onto the yellow-marked trail (8624). Continue up the Staniškovská dolina valley arternatively in forest and alpine meadow to the Stanišovské sedlo saddle (1 101 m). The saddle is situated in agreeable meadow landscape at the head of the Brtkovičná valley. At the crossroads of the saddle turn left onto the red-marked trail (0863). Continue on the ridge. The lower part of the path runs along the edge of the meadow and forest. It enters the forest and becomes steeper. It becomes milder only at the highest part of the massive mountain of Smrekovica (1 285 m). The path avoids the top, it traverses the northern slope of the dominant and drops to the elevation point of Brť (1 201 m). The path turns right here and descends through the forest. When it reaches a small foothill plain, it turns left and runs down the side valley along the Albertovica brook. Above the cottages at the end of the valley turn left on an inclined meadow. The access road to the Marta Pension will carry you as far as the crossroads above the swimming pool. The village of Liptovský Ján boasts several historical and cultural monuments worth seeing.
