Lenght of line: 58 km
Start at the railway station in Ruzomberok (494 m a.s.l.the railway track no.180Žilina-Košice). Cross the river Váh and join the main road no. 18(E)Žilina-Poprad, take the left turn, towards Poprad. At the busy crossroads after about one kilometre turn right towards Banská Bystrica (E77). There is also a quieter and less busy option, though rather difficult to find your way around, if you cross the city passing by the Revúca River and join E77 in the southern part of the city.
You are heading south in the comparatively wide valley of the Revúca. On the right there are the Veľká Fatra Mts. and Low Tatras are on the left. The road is busy, you have to concentrate and ride with caution. Then you pass the suburb of Biely Potok and about 6 km beyond the crossroads in Ružomberok, in the village of Jazierce, you pass a turn on the right leading to Vlkolínec, a well-known locality with precious buildings of folk architecture, included in the UNESCO list of cultural monuments.
An ascending asphalt-surfaced road (elevation gain 190m in 3km) communicates with Vlkolínec. Continue on the main road. In places the remains of a narrow-gauge railway which used to go from Ružomberok to Korytnica can be seen. It was closed in the 1970s.
In the village Podsuchá (560 m a.s.l.), turn left onto forest road leading to the military sanatorium at Smrekovica (1,367 m a.s.l.) situated in the main ridge of the Veľká Fatra Mts. (elevation gain 800 m in 7 km).
Continue from Podsuchá another 4,5 km to the crossroads in Liptovská Osada(609 m a.s.l.). Turn left at the very entrance to the village and go on along the brook maintaining the direction Liptovská Lúžna. The road begins to ascend intensely. About 4 km past the turn you can see the first houses of Liptovská Lúžna (the centre of the village is 717 m a.s.l.). It is one of the longest (4,5 km) villages of the Liptov region. The road is distinctly ascending with a steep conclusion. As a matter of fact, the steepest section of the whole trip is the one 2,5 km long betveen the upper end of the village and the saddle of Prievalec (1,100 m a.s.l.). On the right side you can see the denuded and massive Prašivá Mt. (1,753 m a.s.l.)in the main ridge of the Low Tatras.
You are entering the territory of the Low Tatra Mts. National Park (NAPANT). Surmounting the saddle you are leaving the hardest portion of the trail behind. Now you descend about 1,5 km to spa village Železné (970 m a.s.l.), originally a climatic spa, today sanatorium for children. In the stretch between the Prievalec saddle and the village Železné there is an option to turn right and follow the green-marked forest road to visit the former mining settlement Magurka. Beyond Železné there is initially comparatively steep descent, and road quality is lower. After 2 km you arrive at the confluence of two brooks (locality Tajch, 790 m a.s.l.). There is an option to turn to a valley on your right situated in an almost opposite direction and visit the village of Magurka ascending 3,5km.
The way out of Tajch is a moderate descent for about 13 km in the long valley of Lupčianska dolina to Partizánska Ľupča (568 m a.s.l.) lying in the Liptovská kotlina basin. The crossroads at the lower (northern) end of the village is the point where you take the left turn, towards Ružomberok. After about 2,5 km there is a turn right to a subsidiary road leading to Liptovský Michal. Carry on and cross the motorway and the river Váh, you arrive to Bešeňová (512 m a.s.l.) a village with pool of hot springs. If you do not want to stop, turn left immediately past the bridge, towards Liptovská Teplá and Ružomberok. In Liptovská Teplá (2,5 km) there is a possibility to take the right turn to the spa of Lúčky (2,5 km).
Continue along the river, passing by the national nature reserve of Ivachnovský luh. After 3 km there is the large village of Lisková and on the other side of the river you can see(sometimes also smell) the industrial area of Ružomberok. The road between the foothill of Mních Mt. and the railway track vill take you to a pedestrian passage over the rails. Our trail ends at the railway station on the opposite side of the rails.
