The trail starts in Liptovský Mikuláš (577 m above sea level, railway track Žilina - Košice, no.180)at the crossroads near Jánošík hotel. You are heading to Liptovský Trnovec (road no.584), pass under the railway track and continue through the suburb of Liptovská Ondrašová (right turn leads to Bobrovec and Jalovecká dolina valley).
after 5,5 km you arrive at the crossroads where one of the roads leads to the car camping site of Liptovský Trnovec situated close to the village bearing the same name. It is the main centre for water sport and recreation on the shore of Liptovská Mara reservoir with a big and convenint camping site.
Practically the whole trail around Liptovská Mara and especially its firs part offers panoramic views of the Low and Western Tatra Mts., Chočské vrchy Mts. with majestic Choč Mt., standing next to the road heading west or a High Tatra peak Kriváň which can be seen on return trip.
Continue by road around the village passing by the bays of the reservoir. Then ride past the protected study area of Ratkovie with abundant bird life on a peninsula between two bays on the left side of the road. After a very mild ascent and 4 km from Liptovský Trnovec you arrive at the crossroads near Liptovská Sielnica. The main road turns, the massive ridge of Nízke of Low Tatras with the tallest mountains of Ďumbier and Chopok closes the horizon. On the left Krright to Kvačianska dolina valley and to the Orava region, continue straight ahead on the shore of the reservoir for another 5 km to arrive at the crossroads near the village of Bobrovník (585 m a.s.l.).
The turn on the right hand side leads to Liptovská Anna and the turn left is in fact a shortcut via Bobrovník, to the village of Vlašky below the dam and from there over the channel of the river Váh, to the village of Vlachy, passing under the motorway and railway to the village of Krmeš and to crossroads with road no.18 near the village of Ľubela. The shortcut is 10 km long and it is passable also by road bikes. In the village of Bobrovník there is an option to turn right and follow the red mark to Tvarožná. About 700 m from Tvarožná leave the red mark and turn right. After a 500 m ride you can visit the tower of the transmitter at Úložisko (742 m a.s.l.), a dominating element in this part of the basin.
The original trail continues beyond the crossroads near Bobrovník by a prolonged ascent to a little saddle. A long descent Brings you along travertine mounts (right) to Bešeňová (512 m a.s.l.) where you can take a bath in pool of hot spring water (to getto the pool you have to turn left near the manor house and continue on the main street to the swimming pool situated at its end). Then you cross the river Váh over the motorway to Liptovský Michal to the crossroads with road no.18. Continue turning left, towards Liptovský Mikuláš. Next you pass a turn right to Partizánska Ľupča and Ľupčianska dolina valley via Železné spa to Liptovská Osada. Continue on road no.18. Traffic is low here, as there exists a parallel motorway. The road ascends and descends as it runs on the ridges separating the valleys of the brooks flowing from the Low Tatra Mts. for another 12 km. The individual ascents are mostly long and moderate, the elevation gain being not more than several tens of metres. Travelling at the bottoms of the valleys near brooks you pass by the villages of Malatíny, Lubeľa (crossroads with shortened trail), Gôtovany, Svätý Kríž and Galovany. Beyond the Galovany there is the last slight ascent followed by a 5 km long moderate descent passing under the motorway, to Palúdzka, the suburb of Liptovský Mikuláš and the crossroads near the hotel Jánošík - the aim of the trip.
